METIS ASSOCIATION ORGANISES INTERNATIONAL EDUCATION PROJECT: EUROPEAN STUDENTS TAKE A BICYCLE TOUR IN KEMALPASA

In a testament to its commitment to international education initiatives, the Metis Association orchestrated a captivating event that saw the participation of European students in a cycling tour within the Kemalpaşa district of Izmir. Under the aegis of the Erasmus+ program, this endeavor brought together 12 students and 7 teachers from France, Spain, and Romania, who were welcomed with open arms by Ferzent Bulum Anatolian High School.

Rooted in the values of environmental stewardship and cross-cultural understanding, the cycling tour was designed not only to highlight the importance of environmental awareness but also to showcase the rich cultural tapestry of the Kemalpaşa district. The event offered an immersive platform for the visiting students and teachers to interact with the local culture and heritage.

The journey commenced from the heart of the district, as the group embarked on their cycling tour from the town center. A notable stop along the route was at the Ümran Baradan Fine Arts High School, where they were treated to an enchanting performance by local students, showcasing their talents in a melodious and harmonious choir music rendition.

Continuing their exploration, the cyclists pedaled their way to Nazarköy, a neighborhood celebrated for its mastery in crafting “nazar boncuğu” (evil eye beads). Here, they had the unique opportunity to visit workshops dedicated to the art of creating these iconic beads. Following an engaging presentation on the intricate artistry behind bead-making, the visiting students and teachers were bestowed with their own “nazar boncuğu” souvenirs, symbolizing protection and goodwill.

The significance of the cycling tour was further elevated by the presence of notable figures. Kemalpaşa District Governor Musa Sarı, Public Prosecutor Mustafa Aktekin, District Chief of Police Sefer Şahin, and the project’s coordinating teachers were among those who accompanied the guest student group throughout their enriching journey.

The Metis Association’s role in orchestrating this remarkable event speaks volumes about its dedication to fostering educational and cultural exchange. By blending the values of environmental consciousness and cultural understanding, the association demonstrated its commitment to nurturing global citizens who are sensitive to diverse traditions and the environment. This event stands as a testament to the transformative power of international collaborations in shaping young minds and fostering a shared appreciation for the world’s heritage and ecological well-being.
